Nas profundezas dos garimpos, como pudemos presenciar, os sons do ambiente ao redor praticamente silenciam, restando o barulho ritmado das ferramentas, às vezes por cerca de uma hora antes que algum bamburrista pare abruptamente, recoloque a espinha dorsal em posição ereta e enxugue com o dorso da mão escondida em uma luva velha e surrada, o suor que poreja na testa. É comum, nesse momento, que os bamburristas lancem um olhar panorâmico pelo garimpo como a quererem avaliar o quanto já trabalharam até àquela hora do dia, como costumam se referir à passagem do tempo. Essa é tomada, geralmente, pela sombra projetada por uma das paredes do barreiro, independentemente da existência de relógios que um ou outro conduz.
