OPAL BAMBURRISTAS FROM PEDRO II REGION

Known nationally and internationally as the Land of Opal for being the world's largest exporter of gemstone, the municipality of Pedro II, Piauí state, Brazil, has about 600 men (the bamburristas) who work in mines in precarious places. The article, results from my master's dissertation, seeks to establish some relations between language used by this group invisibilized socially, inserted in a society that ignores them, and the process of identity construction from the mine as a symbolic space. The conclusion is that the language is one of the key components in the construction of sociocultural identity of the group, permeating all elements of this identity and amalgamated them.
